O Desportivo de Chaves was one step away from returning to I Liga this Saturday, after beating Moreirense 2-0 at home in the first leg of the playoffs.
In a match played at the Engenheiro Manuel Branco Teixeira stadium, Moreirense started even better, but it was the home side who opened the scoring at Trás os Montes. The first goal came at minute 15. In the collection of a direct free kick, João Teixeira shot in a masterful way and left the flavienses to win by 1-0.
Moreira de Cónegos’ team, which did not have Ricardo Sá Pinto on the bench, tried to react to the disadvantage in the second half. Jefferson and Rafael Martins tried their luck, but it would be Desportivo de Chaves who moved up to second in the 68th minute after a fine initiative from João Correia. The striker passed two opponents and shot for the count.
With a two-goal deficit, the Cannons attempted to score at least one accurate shot that would put them back in the draw. Galego, for example, pulled off a superb save from Paulo Vítor. However, the flavienses closed the defense well and managed to keep the advantage.
