How to properly use and dose Lorazepam
We have seen what Lorazepam is and how it works so now we are going to take a look at the dosage recommendations and check out how it is used exactly. There are some basic guidelines that you should follow but really most of it comes from what your doctor is going to tell you because every treatment for every patient that includes benzodiazepines is different. That means that you can take Lorazepam whenever your physician told you that it is ok to use it.
Now, if you are using Lorazepam orally then you just need to follow the instructions that you got from your doctor or pharmacist. Usually, you will be told to use it at the same time every day, with or without eating first – this doesn’t make much difference, really. When you use it at the same time every day it will be easier to remember and avoid forgetting to take your dose. As we said, there is no specific dosage that is the same for all patients and thus the only instructions that you should follow regarding to that are those that you are going to get from your doctor when the medicine gets prescribed to you.
Another important thing that you should know about Lorazepam is that you must not abruptly stop taking it because it can cause a withdrawal reaction. If you have been taking Lorazepam for a while you must consult your doctor about the slow diminishing of the doses so you could end the treatment without going through the difficulties of an abrupt withdrawal. Also, you should immediately talk to a doctor if you notice that it is not working as well as it used to before.
Taking into account that this is a medication that is used for stress and anxiety treatment (when there are signs of depression involved), it should not be used to treat symptoms of everyday issues. An anxiolytic should be reserved for more serious issues so don’t turn to this medicine if there is no real need for it. Make a note that this drug can lose its effects if it has been taken for a prolonged period of time. Effectiveness might drop after 4 months (more or less) and that is when it should be reassessed by a qualified expert.
Usual dosage is somewhere between 2 and 6 mg daily where the largest part of the daily dose is administered before going to sleep. Since it comes in different dosage tablets it is easily divided throughout the day. It can be also used to cure insomnia if administered before bedtime. For more information on the effects and usage, consult with your therapist. Also keep in mind the advice that you have been given here and make sure that you follow every instruction that you have been given to maximize the effect of the cure and to avoid any unpleasant side effect that might compromise your treatment and general health.
